For that reason, he can't be relied on in 2010. In keeper league, he is a must grab. Sweeney gave hints of increased power back in the White Sox system when he hit 13 home runs at triple-A Charlotte as a 21 year old. That may still happen for the 6'4 outfielder and until then he provides some interesting possibilities for the fantasy player. Last season he grew considerably over his first full season stint as a regular starter. That's evidence by his sparkling .319.378/.463 mark after the break.

Sweeney's lack of power and stolen bases limit his upside. Sweeney is not slow, but like many big men, he isn;t quick enough to steal effectively. His 35 runs over the final two months suggest that with an improved Oakland Offense Sweeney could score 90-100 runs. .295-8-65-90-5. 550ABs

And he actually was as good on the road as he was in Coors .290/.345/.387 in Denver, .292/.360/.371 elsewhere.

But this is not where you want to go.

Even if he wins a full time job he looks like a .245 hitter with little power in Petco where he has batted for his career .156 with a .431 OPS(!)

You'll want to pick up Ian Desmond. As of this writing, Desmond is knocking the cover off the ball in spring training, running up a storm and generally pushing Cristian Guzman aside.

This is not to say we love Desmond, the 24 year old middle infielder who sleep-walked his way through five minor league seasons before waking up last year. But if he does win the job, he could hit double-digit home runs and steal 25 bases.

Now, for those who have looked at Desmond's minor league number There are a couple of things to note. In the small sample at triple-A Syracuse last season, he hit down on the ball, made contact and as a result his average went up and his strikeouts went down, but his home runs ( he had hit 13 and 12 the previous two years) disappeared. We'd expect him to hit for some average or to hit for some power but not both. Eventually he will hit for Power, Desmond is a big kid and plenty of room to put on weight. .270-75-12-60-25. 525ABS

We actually like Hundley. He averaged over 20 HRs per 500 ABs in the minors and probably would approach that in the majors on occasion. His five stolen bases in 2009 were more than double his career total as a pro before that, but as we all know, running for players like this is largely a matter of coaching decisions rather than speed, he might do that again (for whatever it is worth).

But the Padres signed Yorvit Torrealba in the off season to cover left-handers (against whom Hundley batted a rousing .159 with a .587 OPS). Hundley has the good side of the platoon, but PetCo, plus a sub .250 BA and hitting back close to the pitcher? There just has to be something better. .240-25-10-35-4. 325ABs

A catching shortage in washington forced him to the big leagues where he was not much good. He was terrific last year for a short period before being injured.

It's not fair that he was called up too early, but it doesn't mean that he will be any better. In a time share with Pudge, you can't take him unless he is shown to be healthy and has the job. .255-25-8-30-0. 275ABs
