LAST WEEK

  • Straight Up - 8-6 (58-45 on season)
  • Against Spread - 11-3 (59-41-3 on season)
  • Over/Under - 5-9 (54-47-2 on season)

Taking a break from the long winded diatribes this week. I'm still too busy complimenting myself after a glorious 11-3 week.

Expect a split between the favorites and underdogs in Week 8 -- every home team is favored. They can't all be winners. Life doesn't work like that.

LAST WEEK

  • Straight Up - 9-4 (50-39 on season)
  • Against Spread - 7-6 (48-38-3 on season)
  • Over/Under - 10-3 (49-38-2 on season)

SUNDAY AFTERNOON

Cincinnati at Atlanta (-3.5) [42.5]

LAST WEEK

  • Straight Up - 7-7 (41-35 on season)
  • Against Spread - 9-5 (41-32-3 on season)
  • Over/Under - 8-6 (39-35-2 on season)

SUNDAY AFTERNOON

Baltimore at New England (-2.5) [44.5]

LAST WEEK

  • Straight Up - 8-6 (34-28 on season)
  • Against Spread - 8-6 (32-27-3 on season)
  • Over/Under - 8-6 (31-29-2 on season)

SUNDAY AFTERNOON

Denver at Baltimore (-7) [39.5]

LAST WEEK

  • Straight Up - 9-7 (26-22 on season)
  • Against Spread - 8-8 (24-21-3 on season)
  • Over/Under - 6-10 (23-23-2 on season)

NewYork Jets at Buffalo (+6.5) [37]

I'm going against the grain this week starting with this game. While the Bills aren't an offensive juggernaut with The Brain, Ryan Fitzpatrick at the helm; they're certainly more competitive. He'll keep them close. As crazy as it sounds, Buffalo may have the best the pass defense outside of the Jets in this division. They'll keep Sanchez under wraps long enough to stay in the game. GO BILLS!!! BUF 17, NYJ 13 (Pick: Buffalo +6.5, under 37)

LAST WEEK

  • Straight Up - 7-9 (17-15 on season)
  • Against Spread - 8-8 (16-13-3 on season)
  • Over/Under - 9-7 (17-13-2 on season)

Cincinnati at Carolina (+3) [38]

The Panthers have made the plunge and thrust rookie quarterback Jimmy Clausen into the starters’ role. With an inexperienced quarterback, expect the Bengals to stack the box to prevent DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart from taking over the game. Carolina’s defense should be able to keep Carson Palmer and company under wraps – for a while. But they won’t generate the points to keep up. CIN 24, CAR 10 (Pick: Cincinnati -3, under 38)

LAST WEEK

  • Straight Up - 10-6
  • Against Spread - 8-5-3
  • Over/Under - 8-6-2

Batting over .500 in all three categories -- I'll take it! Depending on which way you look at it, I was a couple of pushes away from a really great week or a mediocre week. I choose to look at it in the former. There's a few week two lines that have been over influenced by a sketchy week one, so there's value to had. Read on to find where that value lies.

SUNDAY AFTERNOON

Damn it feels good to be back. Six months is far too long to go without football. I tried referring to soccer as football during the World Cup, but that just made me feel worse. For all you on second tour of duty with me, welcome back. For all you new comers, beat it, you’ve already missed out. Kidding. Lord knows I need every reader I can muster up. Year one of the column was an unabashed success (Editor’s note: not really) and I’m ready to take on year two. After picking at a delightful 61% against the spread last season I’ve decided to return and lend my “advice” on each game once again. Just incase your math skills have gone the way of the dodo, or Lou Bega, I’ll just remind you now, that means I’m wrong 39% of the time. And that’s a high mark. It only gets worse from here on out.

If you’re a betting man (or woman, but that’s unlikely); you know that week one is the time to make some money. We all like to think we have a grasp on who’s good and who’s not, but frankly, this is the NFL – it really could be anyone. This is a week primed for upsets.

But enough of this, witty repartee isn’t really my thing. But football certainly is – so let’s get to it.

Below, we explore what should happen in this week's NFL games. Of course, in the NFL, only half of what should happen actually does happen, but playing the percentages gives you the best chance of winning. Remember, think twice before benching a stud based on match-ups! We list the Vegas odds spread in parentheses and the Over/Under number in brackets.
