RotoExperts basically offers the same things we do, and I'll be doing much of the same things I do over there that I did here. The kicker is that I now have a staff of 37 to work with instead of a staff of seven. I have two masters of business operations out there making deals, and I'll be working in tandem with Scott Engel and a couple of other managers to help everything run smoothly.
I'll contribute my "Gawron's Grids" rankings, projections, cheat sheets, and schedule analysis to RotoExperts, and they're chock full of great audio and video broadcasting content, which will expand even more. They also cover other sports like NHL, NASCAR, MMA, golf, and more. I will spend the next several months tidying up the form (aesthetics) and function (organization, layout, navigation) of the RotoExperts website. And finally, I'll get to implement a statistical player database, starting with the 2011 baseball draft kit, which I've wanted to do at RotoCommunity but never had the chance, as I was the CEO, COO, Editor in Chief, and webmaster, and web developer all in one. I'll still do a lot of that at RotoExperts, but I'll have LOTS of help.
I'm excited, and you should be too! So head on over to the new RotoExperts, and enjoy the ride with us!
Sincerely,
Dave Gawron

5. Cody Ross MVP
If there is a nicer story than this in post-season baseball this year, I don't know what it is. Ross, the afterthought waiver claim, slugged three home runs, drove in five and scored four times to lead the San Francisco Giants past the Philadelphia Phillies and into the World Series. The Giants put in a claim for Ross to block him from reaching the San Diego Padres, their competition in the National League West. Much to their surprise, ross not only fell to them, but his owners, the Florida Marlins didn't pull him back (or reportedly even ask for anything in return), instead letting him go to the Giants on a straight waiver claim.

5. Cody Ross
As we remarked here at RotoCommunity, the Giants evidently put in a waiver claim on Cody Ross with no intention of actually getting him, instead pre-empting the Padres from acquiring him for the stretch run. The Giants had no intention of paying for Ross, so when the claim fell to them they assumed the Marlins would call and ask "what will you give us" and they would say nothing and voila!, the Marlins take him back off waivers and the world goes on revolving. Instead, the Marlins said, you can have him for nothing, and the Giants found themselves with a redundant outfielder... until he hit two home runs sealing the Giants opener in the NLCS in back of a fine pitching performance by Tim Lincecum.

5. Those Darn Umpires!!!
A bunch of iffy calls in the post season and towards the end of the regular season (on top of Jim Joyce's admitted error on Armando Galaragga's now one-hitter) have put the topic of umpiring on the hot list. The MLBPA has requested a meeting with representatives of MLB and the Umpires to hash out "communications" issues and perhaps talk about "instant" replay.

Thanks for reading this column this season. This will be the last Hitting Planner of 2010. Be sure to read it again in 2011!
We tell you who to sit and who to start in setting your hitting line-ups each week. For the top hitters for the week, we focus on questionable hitters that may or may not normally start for you that have favorable schedules this week. We won't bother listing hitters like Pujols, Hanley, or A-Rod in this article, because you always start them, regardless of schedule. Likewise, we won't list lousy hitters in the bottom section, because you'd obviously bench a hitter like David Eckstein playing in PETCO all week without our having to tell you to do so. For the bottom hitters, we focus on the average and better than average (but not star) hitters that you would normally start but have poor schedules this week. Top platoon starts are mostly RHBs playing many LHPs in the upcoming week. Bottom platoon starts are mostly LHBs facing a heavy LHP schedule. Top SB starts play against teams that allow many SBs, and vice versa.

As both leagues come to a close for 2010, the signings this week were light. A pair of starting pitchers, Joe Saunders SP ARI and Tim Stauffer SP SD, have been okay lately and should provide some help. A.J. Ellis C LAD sports a 1.304 OPS over the final month, making him a solid value for late-season C at-bats. Other players added include Jonathan Herrera 2B COL, Wilson Valdez SS PHI, and John Bowker OF PIT. None of these guys are especially enticing, but Herrera has had a nice stretch lately, Valdez has seen more action with Jimmy Rollins ailing, and Bowker is seeing playing time and flashing a little power.
