Richard only got to pitch 6 games in PetCo after being acquired by the Padres in 2009. Which is nice for you because his Padres numbers (4.08-1.47 48K in 64IP) look suspiciously like his White Sox numbers (4.65-1.47 66K in 89IP) and this will keep his price down. Here's the number you want:

4-0-2.00-1.06-32. 36IP (six starts).

Yeah, yeah - small sample, but that's what he did in PetCo. He'll get the NL boost in strikeouts, so that mid- to high 5.00's become six-and-something per nine which is usable. He should see a bigger effect than the 4.05 on his ERA. His walk rate was the highest of his career in 2008 and we would expect that to go down at least to his career norms. 10-0-3.80-1.30-135. 190IP

Positives / Upside	Richard is a dart-throwing lefty, and he added a cut fastball to his repertoire in 2009 to have something with motion on it aside from his change. Neither the cutter nor his slider were very effective, but it helped a lot on the end results. FB% and LD% are one of the iffy areas of record keeping, but Richard turned about six percent of his results from line drives to flyballs. The Pads won't provide much support, but they have a great bullpen with Heath Blee, Luke Gregerson and Mike Adams all stopping rallies. Richard is a modest value, but at this price a real profit center. 12-0-3.50-1.25-145. 200IP
Negatives / Downside	Richard will need to get a significant NL "bump" for his strikeout rates to be usable. The Padres offense is questionable and the likelihood is that part or all of the fine bullpen may be traded over the course of the season. Richard has never pitched more than 160+ innings on any level. 8-0-4.10-1.35-108. 160IP
