Eerie Consistency

Eerily, Blackburn's 2009 almost exactly matched his 2008. Looking to 2010, these seasons represent his best-case scenarios. If you've already made some upside plays and are looking for a little consistency, Blackburn is a cheap option who may fit. In most cases, at this cost, it's probably better to first explore some higher reward pitchers who may be yet available. 10-0-4.50-1.34-90 in 185 IP
Positives / Upside Blackburn's done a pretty good job of succeeding despite a limited skillset. He's durable and generally sticks around long enough to be in position for wins, he walks few hitters, and his ERA has been better than average each of the past two seasons. His upside is essentially his consistency - you can stick him at the back of your deep mixed or AL-only team's rotation and feel okay about it.
Negatives / Downside The underlying numbers caution that a collapse could be ahead for Blackburn. Since he strikes out few batters, his success is highly dependent on his defense. As a flyball pitcher, he will miss Carlos Gomez in CF, and if Jason Kubel plays extensively in the field, Blackburn may be in some trouble. Blackburn's ceiling is basically where he's at now - there's almost zero chance he has significant growth yet in him.
Recommendation Buy at cost
