Venable is a very comfortable guy for those who do projections. His majpr league numbers lineup almost exactly with his Major League Expectations (MLE). Petco hurts him quite a bit, and puts a real cap on in his value, so we're not convinced that means comfort for you.

What you see is pretty much what you get, decent left-handed pop who can play all three outfield slots adequately. He batted mainly fifth and sixth last season and with the departure of Kevin Kouzmanoff looks to stay right in an RBI producing slot.

He was very vulnerable to lefties last season in a small sample, but was fine against them the previous year in an even smaller sample. It's something to watch this season because the Padres have a bunch of interchangeable parts and it could cost him playing time.

You can expect 20 home runs over a full season, but his average and countables will be limited by the difficult field and poor lineup. .260-60-20-70-10. 525ABs

Positives / Upside	The power is real. 20+ homes runs and as a bonus he has run a little bit over the years. This is his age 27 season. .275-70-25-80-10. 550Abs
Negatives / Downside	Likely to be a platoon player for at least part of the season with the return of Scott Hairston and the signing of Jerry Hairston Jr. crowding the picture. Had problems against lefties and plays in PetCo park. Strikeouts have been a problem on the major league level, approaching 1 per 3 at-bats in 2009. .250-50-12-55-5. 425Abs
