It was an extremely slow week leading up to next weeks September call-ups, which are sure to cause a flurry of waiver wire activity next weekend. Here are this weeks pick-ups with a short analysis.
Rhymes, Will 2B DET ($20 U, - drop Ordonez, Magglio OF DET)
Carlos Guillen is still hurting, and it wouldn’t be surprised that he sit out the rest of the season. Rhymes is playing everyday in his absence and worth a pick-up.
Fister, Doug SP SEA ($0 U, - drop Putz, JJ RP CHW)
Fister was dropped in Ultimate last week, but is worth owning. In six of his last seven starts he has allowed three or less runs. He is a nice back of the rotation starter over the final month of the season.
Crain, Jesse RP MIN ($0 U, - drop Jackson, Connor OF OAK)
If you need a middle man, you could do a lot worse than Crain. However, he will not see any saves opportunities, especially now that the Twins have acquired Brian Fuentes. Speaking of, Fuentes is nothing more than a middle man in Minnesota.
Rodriguez, Henry RP OAK ($0 U, - drop Simon, Alfredo RP BAL)
I was disappointed when I realized it wasn’t that Henry Rodriguez too. This Henry Rodriguez is nothing more than a solid middle man. Hopefully the fans in Oakland catch on and start throwing Oh Henry bars on the field every time he emerges from the bullpen.
By the way if Fernando Rodney is available in your league, grab him. He will be the closer in Anaheim.
