We tell you who to sit and who to start in setting your pitching line-ups each week. For the top pitchers for the week, we focus on questionable pitchers that may or may not normally start for you that have favorable schedules this week. We won't bother listing pitchers like Lincecum, Halladay, or Carpenter in this article, because you always start them, regardless of schedule. Likewise, we won't list lousy starters in the bottom section, because you'd obviously bench a pitcher Jason Marquis visiting Philadelphia without our having to tell you to do so. For the bottom pitchers, we focus on the average and better than average (but not star) pitchers that you would normally start with poor schedules this week.

Top Two-Start Starts (#1 being the best)
- Dan Haren (LAA) -- Mon-@SEA (Hernandez), Sun-@OAK (Mazzaro) - After giving up 11 ER in a two-start period, rebounded in his last start, giving up only 1 ER in 6 IP in a win over TB. Has a good chance to on a winning streak against two teams that feature lower level offenses.
- Hiroki Kuroda (LAD) -- Mon-PHI (Halladay), Sun-SF (Sanchez) - It's been a pretty consistent season for him. The big difference is that he's gotten lesser run support in the second half. He's done his part, especially in the last four starts, giving up just 9 ER, but only a 1-1 record to show for it. Should stay on his solid roll against a PHI team he had a quality start against last season (6 IP, 0 ER, 5 K) and a team that's struggling offensively and a Giants squad that he was 2-0 with a 1.88 ERA against in two starts last season.
- Brian Duensing (MIN) -- Tue-DET (Galarraga), Sun-TEX (Wilson) - Is 4-1 since joining the starting rotation in late July, putting up a quality start in five of the seven starts. Will face a DET team that he hasn't given up an ER against in five appearances this season. He'll also take on a TEX squad that gave him his first L as a starter in his last start. However, his downfall in that start was giving up 2 HR at Rangers Ballpark, something that's more of a rareity in Target Field.
- Jonathon Niese (NYM) -- Tue-@ATL (Minor), Sun-@CHC (Zambrano) - Had a little roadblock in his last start vs. FLA, a team that has given him problems this season (1-3, 5.66 ERA). Should see a more familiar '10 version of him this upcoming week against two teams he's only given up 1 ER combined against in two starts.
- Jorge De La Rosa (COL) -- Mon-@SF (Sanchez), Sun-@SD (Richard) - After going 0-2 in his first three starts since returning from the DL, has recovered nicely, going 2-1 in his last five starts, tossing a quality a quality start in three of them. Has a good chance of posting up two more quality starts against a Giants squad he was 3-0 with a 3.38 ERA against last season and a SD squad that he's 1-0 against in two starts this season.
Top One-Start Starts (#1 being the best)
- Ted Lilly (LAD) -- Sat-SF (Cain) - Had his first bad outing after five impressive starts since moving to LA. Has a great chance of getting back on track against a team he's 3-1 lifetime against in five starts.
- Daniel Hudson (ARI) -- Fri-HOU (Myers) - Is becoming a bright spot for a pitching staff, which has been nearly impossible to find in Arizona this season. Is 4-1 with a 1.85 ERA in six starts since joining the D-Backs, with all six being of the quality kind. A stat that stands out recently is his K success rate, as he has 34 K in his last four starts (28 IP). 5-1 looks like a strong possibility against one of the league's worst offensive teams.
- Edwin Jackson (CHW) - Tue-@CLE (Masterson) - He did provide one of the couple D-Back bright spots this season with a no-hitter, but has been even a bigger bright spot for the White Sox since joining them in early August (2-0, 0.96 ERA in four starts). The impressiveness should continue against an Indians team he was 4-0 with a 2.10 ERA against in five starts last season.
- Colby Lewis (TEX) -- Sat-@MIN (Pavano) - Has been the hard-luck losing pitcher recently, but there's really no one to blame but himself in his last start. Is 0-1 in two starts vs. MIN this season, but has only given up a combined 5 ER against them. Also, both starts were a much more comfortable hitters park, compared to the one this upcoming week at one of the newest pitcher-friendly ballparks.
- Cole Hamels (PHI) -- Fri-MIL (Parra) - Speaking of hard-luck, he can run for President of that club this season. But he finally got some assistance in his last start, while once again doing his part. Got enough run support to defeat MIL earlier this season (6 2/3 IP, 2 ER on May 16th).
Top Set-Up Weeks (#1 being the best)
- Tyler Clippard (WAS) -- (3 @FLA, 3 @PIT) - Had a rough week last week, giving up 3 ER on 4 H in 3 IP. Great chance to have a rebound week against two teams he's fared really well against this season (9 1/3 IP - 1 ER, 14 K).
- Matt Belisle (COL) -- (3 @SF, PHI, 3 @SD) - Had his first bump in the road in August, allowing his first 2 ER of the month last Friday. Looks like it could be a smoother week against three teams he's given up a combined 2 ER against in 21 IP in '10. Along with that, not having Manuel Corpas in the bullpen for the rest of the season should increase his appearance rate.
- Jonny Venters (ATL) -- (4 NYM, 3 @FLA) - Had a 'Rockie' time of it in Colorado this past week, going 0-2 with a BS, allowing 5 ER in the process. Looks to be a better week upcoming against two teams he's been dominant against in '10 (11 IP, 0 ER, 12 K).
Bottom Two-Start Starts (#1 being the worst)
- Wade LeBlanc (SD) -- Mon-@ARI (Saunders), Sun-COL (Rogers) - After losing four of five starts, has gone 3-1 since, including a W over ARI in his last start. However, that was in Petco Park, the opposite type of park that Chase Field is, where he has never won in his career. He'll also face a COL team he's 0-2 with a 4.50 ERA against in three starts this season.
- J.A. Happ (HOU) -- Mon-STL (Westbrook), Sun-@ARI (Saunders) - Has been pretty good since joining the Astros, going in 3-2 in six starts, with five of them being of the quality kind. The only non-quality start was against STL on August 4th (1 IP, 7 ER). He'll also face an D-Backs squad that he's never beaten in his career.
- Kyle Kendrick (PHI) -- Tue-@LAD (Monasterios), Sun-MIL (Wolf) - As Forrest Gump said, he's "like a box of chocolates..."; August is a prime example. In his two wins, he gave up just 3 ER in 12 2/3 IP, while in his three losses, he allowed 14 ER in 15 IP. This upcoming week looks like it'll be more of the 3-loss version, as he'll face a LAD team that beat him up bad earlier in the season (3 1/3 IP, 5 ER) and a MIL squad he's never beaten in his career.
- Jake Westbrook (CLE) -- Mon-@HOU (Happ), Sun-CIN (Wood) - Has pitched decently since being acquired by STL, as four of his five starts have been quality, but only has a 1-2 record to show for it. His struggles of getting a W has a good chance of continuing against two teams he hasn't defeated in '10.
- Mark Buehrle (CHW) -- Mon-@CLE (Talbot), Sun-@BOS (Beckett) - After winning two in a row, took the L in his last start vs. BAL. Might take a couple more Ls this upcoming week against a Indians team that rocked him in his last start (3 IP, 6 ER) and a BOS squad that plays in a ballpark that he has a lifetime 4.91 ERA in five starts.
Bottom One-Start Starts (#1 being the worst)
- Derek Lowe (ATL) -- Fri-@FLA (Nolasco) - Is 1-3 in a four-game stretch where he can easily be 4-0 (8 ER combined). Can be 1-4 in his last five starts, as he faces a FLA team that got 4 ER in 5 2/3 IP off of him on July 23rd.
- Kevin Correia (SD) -- Tue-@ARI (Kennedy) - After going 5-1 in six starts (12 ER), is on a two-start losing streak (14 ER). One of those Ls was his last start, which was forgettable, against ARI (3 1/3 IP, 9 ER).
- Max Scherzer (DET) -- Wed-@MIN (Liriano) - Is in the best stretch of his season, winning his last three starts (2 ER). However, his worst stretch (late April-early May) occurred thanks to the team he's facing this upcoming week (8 IP, 16 ER in two starts).
- Shaun Marcum (TOR) -- Wed-@TB (Price) - After going 5-1 in a seven-start stretch, was 1-3 with a 5.06 ERA in August. That has a good chance of rolling into the new month vs. a TB team he's 0-2 with a 8.03 ERA against in '10 so far.
- Wandy Rodriguez (HOU) -- Tue-STL (Carpenter) - After the 1st Half, we were 'Wand'-ering what had happened to the WR that broke out in '09. Well, it has been located Post All-Star break, as he's gone 4-1 with a 1.82 ERA in eight starts. One of the biggest reasons for his poor 1st half was the STL, as he was 1-2 with a 6.06 ERA against in three starts.
Bottom Set-Up Weeks (#1 being the worst)
- Nick Masset (CIN) -- (3 MIL, 3 @STL) - Had a great week last week, with 4 2/3 ER-less IP, which included 7 K. This upcoming week doesn't look so great, especially against a STL team, which has produced 6 ER off of him in 8 2/3 IP so far in '10.
- Matt Guerrier (MIN) -- (3 DET, 3 TEX) - Might have been feeling the pressure with the team's newest bullpen additions, giving up 3 ER in 2 2/3 IP last week. He'll see a TEX team that helped him have that bad week and a Tigers squad that has hit .313 off of him five appearances this season.
- Craig Breslow (OAK) -- (4 @NYY, 3 LAA) - After getting his second save of the season on August 20th, blew his second save of the season on August 21st. The upcoming week's not looking promising for CB, facing two teams that have combined to produce 5 ER in 7 1/3 IP off of him so far in '10.
