TOP 5 NBA NEWSMAKERS FROM WEDNESDAY 8/18/10 TO TUESDAY 8/24/10

We have many great articles planned leading up to the 2010-2011 Fantasy Basketball season including sleepers, busts, rookies, strategy, full player rankings and projections all wrapped up into a nifty draft kit to help you win your league next year. Below, we analyze the top fantasy basketball news items from the previous week.

5. Calderon, Jose PG TOR injured his hamstring

He'll miss a month. He should be fine for the start of the season, but this injury is a reminder of just how injury-prone he is. You just can't trust him in fantasy.

4. Ming, Yao C HOU is recovering

Yao's fractured foot is apparently 100% healed. We don't trust him at all, at this point, but if he drops a bit in your draft, signs are pointing to a potentially decent season if the health holds up, so we wouldn't laugh at you for taking him at a discount. Weigh your options carefully when considering him, though.

3. Brown, Kwame C (DET) signed with CHA

This not a very fantasy relevant move, but it's interesting that Michael Jordan drafted him #1 overall with the Wizards in 2001 and now signs him to his Bobcats team. Brown will likely average 20 mop-up minutes off the bench, teasing with occasional big games sprinkled in among the clunkers. Pass.

2. Martin, Kenyon PF DEN will miss time

In fact, he could miss a significant portion of the season. With Chris Andersen also having knee problems, Al Harrington should see major minutes at PF for Denver, so don't forget about him on draft day.

1. Bogut, Andrew C MIL is still hurting

He hurt his elbow last season, and it's not completely ready yet. Drew Gooden may begin the season manning the middle for the Bucks. If that's the case, bump Gooden up a tad and Bogut down a tad, but even if Bogut misses the first month, he will likely still be a good fantasy value pick.

ALSO

Darren Collison PG IND fractured a finger. He'll be fine in about three weeks, in plenty of time for the regular season... Delonte West G (CLE) FA will not be allowed to play in the first ten games of the 2010-11 season due to carrying a concealed weapon. Some playoff-caliber teams like the Bulls and Celtics were thought to have interest in West, but after thisnews, we'll have to see... Tyson Chandler C DAL has been working on his conditioning and his shot. He's still second fiddle to Brendan Haywood, but he's someone to take very late in two-center leagues for depth in the paint... The following players signed this past week, but they aren't likely to be fantasy assets: just Earl Boykins PG (WAS) MIL this week.
