We tell you who to sit and who to start in setting your pitching line-ups each week. For the top pitchers for the week, we focus on questionable pitchers that may or may not normally start for you that have favorable schedules this week. We won't bother listing pitchers like Lincecum, Halladay, or Carpenter in this article, because you always start them, regardless of schedule. Likewise, we won't list lousy starters in the bottom section, because you'd obviously bench a pitcher Jason Marquis visiting Philadelphia without our having to tell you to do so. For the bottom pitchers, we focus on the average and better than average (but not star) pitchers that you would normally start with poor schedules this week.

Top Two-Start Starts (#1 being the best)
- Cole Hamels (PHI) -- Tue-HOU (Norris), Sun-@SD (Richard) - He had been the hard luck loser two times in one week to the Mets, but suffered a legitimate loss (5 IP, 5 ER) in his last start vs. SF. But with the whole offensive cast finally healthy, look for him to get some quality run support against two teams that are not known for their offense.
- Colby Lewis (TEX) -- Tue-MIN (Pavano), Sun-OAK (Gonzalez) - Speaking of hard luck, he's on a different level. Has allowed just 14 ER in his last six starts, but has a 0-5 record to show for it. Has only given up 10 ER in five combined starts vs. his upcoming opponents. He should receive more luck against a MIN team that will feature a pitcher that's allowed 25 H in his last two starts and an Athletics squad that will put a pitcher on the mound that has never won in his career at Rangers Ballpark.
- Gavin Floyd (CHW) -- Tue-BAL (Guthrie), Sun-NYY (Moseley) - After a three-start winning streak, has lost the last two convincingly (12 IP, 13 ER). Has a good chance to get back on the winning track against a BAL squad he beat earlier in the month and a NYY team that he was impressive against last season (7.2 IP, 1 ER, 10 K) and now is a little shorthanded offensively.
- Brett Myers (HOU) -- Mon-@PHI (Blanton), Sat-@NYM (Santana) - He's finally realizing firsthand what its like to pitch for a below average offensive team. Is 0-1 in his last four starts, allowing just 9 ER in the process. As mentioned in the offseason, he plans to "stick it" to his former team. He'll also face a NYM team that he had a good start against last week (7 IP, 2 ER) and has offensive issues, especially when Santana is on the mound.
- R.A. Dickey (NYM) -- Tue-FLA (Johnson), Sun-HOU (Norris) - It has been an 'amazin' second half and an overall 'amazin' story. In his last 10 starts, has allowed just 15 ER. Citi Field has been knuckleball-friendly so far, as he's 5-1 with a 1.22 ERA, which includes a CG one-hit SO in his last start there.
Top One-Start Starts (#1 being the best)
- Tommy Hanson (ATL) -- Fri-FLA (Volstad) - Is in the long list of pitchers who's getting no love from his teammates. Since his last win on July 3rd (nine starts), six quality starts, 15 ER allowed, but an 0-4 record to show for it. However, will face a FLA team that's one of the few teams he's gotten support against (2-0, 1.42 ERA).
- Edwin Jackson (CHW) -- Thu-BAL (Arrieta) - It looks like a new change of scenery is just what he needed. Since coming back to the AL, he's 1-0 with a 1.35 ERA in three starts. Will pitch against an Orioles team he was impressive against in a start earlier in the month (6 IP, 1 ER, 7 K).
- Jonathon Niese (NYM) - Fri-HOU (Figueroa) - After three quality starts of allowing just 1 ER in each but getting nothing to show for it, finally got some offensive love in his last start vs. PIT. Will face one of the teams he had one of those three quality starts against.
- Ted Lilly (LAD) -- Wed-@MIL (Wolf) - Like Jackson, is loving his progressive scenery. Is 4-0 since joining L.A., which includes a CG two-hit SO in his last start vs. COL. Has a great chance of becoming 5-0, as he'll face a Brewers team that he's 1-0 with a 0.64 ERA in two starts in '10.
- Ryan Dempster (CHC) -- Wed-@WAS (Marquis) - He doesn't want August to end, as he's 3-0 with a 1.65 ERA so far. He'll face a WAS squad that will feature a pitcher that wants this whole season to end very soon (0-6, 11.39 ERA).
Top Set-Up Weeks (#1 being the best)
- Mike Adams (SD) -- (3 ARI, 3 PHI) - Has quietly been one of the best setup relievers in '10, second only to his teammate Luke Gregerson in Holds (28). He's been hot in the hottest months (In 27 appearances in the last three months, just 2 ER). Will face two of the many teams he's had success against this season (five combined appearances - 1-0, 1 Hold, 0 ER, 7 K).
- Takashi Saito (ATL) -- (3 @COL, 3 FLA) - After a rough first three months, has picked up his game in the last two, which includes a ER-less August (also 2 Holds and a SV). Will face a COL team that he's had some success against in his career (19 appearances - 1.86 ERA, 26 K) and a FLA squad that he's been impressive against this season (5 appearances - 0 ER, 9 K).
- Kerry Wood (NYY) -- (3 @TOR, 3 @CHW) - Arguably the best change of scenery, he has life again in his arm. In his eight appearances with NYY, is 1-0 with 1 Hold, and 13 K in 10 2/3 IP. Has only allowed 1 ER with 5 K in five combined appearances against this upcoming week's opponents in '10.
Bottom Two-Start Starts (#1 being the worst)
- Dustin Moseley (NYY) -- Mon-@TOR (Morrow), Sun-@CHW (Floyd) - Is 3-2 since becoming a starter, but has allowed 4 or more ER in three of the five starts. One of those 2 L's was against TOR on August 3rd (7 1/3 IP, 5 ER) and speaking of 2 L's, is 0-2 with a 40.50 ERA in his career against the White Sox (two appearances).
- John Lannan (WAS) -- Tue-CHC (Zambrano), Sun-STL (Wainwright) - Has looked rejuvenated since being called back up in the beginning of the month, as he's 3-0 in his four starts since. However, will face two teams he hasn't gotten a W against in two combined starts in '10.
- Scott Kazmir (LAA) -- Mon-TB (Shields), Sun-BAL (Guthrie) - Has had a lack of success against his former division, as he's 1-4 in six starts vs. the AL East this season. One of those L's is against TB and will also face an Orioles team that will feature a pitcher that beat LAA on August 3rd (7 IP, 3 ER).
- Jeremy Guthrie (BAL) -- Tue-@CHW (Floyd), Sun-@LAA (Kazmir) - Despite taking the L in his last start, has had the best month of the season (3-1, 2.79 ERA). However, the road hasn't been kind to him this season (2-6, 4.11 ERA), and that's where he'll be this upcoming week against two teams that defend their home turf pretty well.
- Doug Fister (SEA) -- Mon-@BOS (Lackey), Sun-MIN (Pavano) - After waiting nearly three months, he got back on the winning track against OAK on August 9th. However, he is winless in three combined starts (0-2) vs. his upcoming opponents in '10.
Bottom One-Start Starts (#1 being the worst)
- A.J. Burnett (NYY) -- Wed-@TOR (Cecil) - You get past C.C. Sabathia and there are some serious issues with the Yankees rotation, especially the inconsistency of Mr. Burnett. After going 3-1 in a four-start stretch (6 ER), is 0-3 in last four (18 ER). One of those 3 L's was against TOR, and it was a brutal one (4 2/3 IP, 8 ER).
- Matt Garza (TB) -- Sat-BOS (Buchholz) - After giving up 7 ER against BAL on July 20th, has rebounded nicely, despite a couple L's on his record. However, has a 4.94 ERA in five appearances vs. BOS in '10, which was helped by a 3 IP, 4 ER outing on July 5th.
- Daisuke Matsuzka (BOS) -- Fri-@TB (Price) - After going 3-0 in a five-start stretch (9 ER), is 0-1 in his last three, allowing 4 ER in each. Great chance to be four straight against a Rays team he's 0-1 with a 5.73 ERA against in two starts this season.
- Clayton Richard (SD) -- Tue-ARI (Lopez) - He's showing SD that last year's 5-2 record was no fluke. He's 4-0 in his last five starts, with three of those W's away from Petco. He is 1-0 in two starts vs. ARI this season, but that also includes a 9.00 ERA.
- Mike Pelfrey (NYM) -- Thu-FLA (Sanchez) - Has looked like his first-half self in his last three starts after a dreadful 1 1/2 month stretch. But one of his L's during that stretch was against FLA (4 2/3 IP, 4 ER on June 30th).
Bottom Set-Up Weeks (#1 being the worst)
- Octavio Dotel (LAD) -- (3 @MIL, 3 @COL) - Had a bad week last week, which included a L and BS. Facing two teams in the upcoming week that have scorched you for 11 ER combined in 10 appearances this season is not the best cure for a bad week.
- Matt Thornton (CHW) -- (3 BAL, 3 NYY) - Had his worst week of the season this past week, allowing 3 ER which included 2 HR. Will go up against a new and improved BAL team and a NYY squad that gave him one of his worst outings of the season (.1 IP, 2 H, 2 ER on April 30th).
- Luke Gregerson (SD) -- (3 ARI, 3 PHI) - After a dominant first three months, has hit a road block, allowing 11 ER in 24 appearances in his last two (allowed just 7 ER in his first 37 appearances). Has allowed the most ER against ARI (4 ER in 3 1/3 IP) and will also see a PHI team that finally has their whole everyday dangerous lineup back.
