We tell you who to sit and who to start in setting your pitching line-ups each week. For the top pitchers for the week, we focus on questionable pitchers that may or may not normally start for you that have favorable schedules this week. We won't bother listing pitchers like Lincecum, Halladay, or Carpenter in this article, because you always start them, regardless of schedule. Likewise, we won't list lousy starters in the bottom section, because you'd obviously bench a pitcher Jason Marquis visiting Philadelphia without our having to tell you to do so. For the bottom pitchers, we focus on the average and better than average (but not star) pitchers that you would normally start with poor schedules this week.

Top Two-Start Starts (#1 being the best)
- Tommy Hanson (ATL) -- Mon-LAD (Billingsley), Sat-@CHC (Gorzelanny) - Still getting no love from his teammates. Just 3 ER allowed in his last four starts, but an 0-2 record to show for it. Look for him to finally get some love against two teams that will feature pitchers that haven't won in August.
- John Danks (CHW) -- Tue-@MIN (Baker), Sun-@KC (Davies) - Had a great recovery start vs. MIN after giving up 6 ER on 6 IP against them on July 15th. He'll also take the ball against at KC team that he's 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA in three starts in '10.
- Brett Anderson (OAK) -- Mon-TOR (Marcum), Sat-TB (Price) - After allowing 5 ER in 5 1/3 IP vs CHW on July 30th, has rebounded nicely, giving up just 3 ER in his last two outings. Is undefeated in his career vs. TB (1-0, 1.80 ERA in two starts) and will face a TOR team that bats just .239 away from the Rogers Centre.
- Jonathan Niese (NYM)-- Mon-@HOU (Happ), Sat-@PIT (McDonald) - Like Mr. Anderson, has recovered well in his last two starts, allowing just 2 ER in 14 IP. Has had similar success in his career vs. his upcoming opponents, as he's allowed 3 ER in 13 IP combined against them.
- Barry Zito (SF) -- Tue-@PHI (Oswalt), Sun-@STL (Lohse) - Hasn't won in nearly a month, but its definitely not been his fault, as he's allowed just 12 ER in his last five starts. Will face a PHI team that he defeated last season, and a Cardinals squad that was dominated by him earlier in the season (8 IP, 0 ER, 10 K).
Top One-Start Starts (#1 being the best)
- Colby Lewis (TEX) -- Thu-@BAL (Matusz) - Might take the cake as far as getting no run support. Is 0-4 in his last five starts, but has allowed only 10 ER in the process. That should change when he faces a BAL team that will feature a pitcher that has been torched by the Rangers in '10 (0-1, 11 ER in 5 1/3 IP in two starts).
- Ted Lilly (LAD) -- Thu-COL (De La Rosa) - Like teammate Ryan Theriot, is enjoying his new shade of blue. After going 3-8 in 18 starts with the Cubs, is 3-0 with a 1.89 ERA in three starts since joining the Dodgers. Has a great chance to go 4-0 against a COL team that's less formidable away from Mile High and a team that Lilly looked formidable against last season (6 2/3 IP, 0 ER, 8 K).
- Francisco Liriano (MIN) - Wed-CHW (Floyd) - After going 0-4 in a five-start period, is 5-0 in his last six starts. Two of those wins are against the team he's facing this upcoming week (13 1/3, 3 ER).
- Jeremy Hellickson (TB) -- Fri-@OAK (Mazzaro) - The Rays have a great crop of young starting pitchers which just got better with their most recent call-up. Will face an OAK team that's batting under .250 Post All-Star break.
- Anibal Sanchez (FLA) -- Fri-HOU (Norris) - Is 2-0 vs. the NL Central in '10, with one of those wins being against HOU.
Top Set-Up Weeks (#1 being the best)
- Clay Hensley (FLA) -- (4 @PIT, 3 HOU) - After a rough June and July, has been solid in the third and final month of summer, which features a very low BAA. Will face two teams that bat under .250 from the seventh-inning on.
- Matt Belisle (COL) -- (3 @LAD, 3 @ARI) - 7 is known as a very lucky number. Is having a career year in his seventh season, which features a K:BB ratio of nearly 6:1 in nearly 75 IP. Has 13 K in 11 2/3 IP combined in '10 vs. his upcoming week's opponents.
- Jonny Venters (ATL) -- (LAD, 3 WAS, 3 @CHC) - The Braves won't blow you away offensively, but if they have a lead on you when you hit the 6th inning, you'll be hard-pressed to make a comeback, with much help from this impressive rookie. Had a five appearance streak from Aug. 5th to the 11th which featured 4 Holds and a W. In nine combined appearances vs. his upcoming opponents, has 14 K vs. 11 IP.
Bottom Two-Start Starts (#1 being the worst)
- Shaun Marcum (TOR) -- Mon-@OAK (Anderson), Sun-@BOS (Buchholz) - You take away his 2-0 record vs. BAL and his record vs. the AL East in '10 is not good (1-4), which was on display in his last two starts vs. NYY and BOS (13 ER in 10 IP). Has never won in his career at Oakland Coliseum.
- Chris Volstad (FLA) -- Mon-@PIT (McDonald), Sat-HOU (Happ) - After losing two in a three-start span, has won two in his last three starts. However, hasn't had much luck against his upcoming opponents (over 4.80 ERA lifetime vs. each).
- Rich Harden (TEX) -- Tue-@TB (Garza), Sun-@BAL (Millwood) - After a strong performance vs. LAA, went back to his all-to-familiar ways in his last start vs. OAK (2 1/3 IP, 3 ER, 5 BB). Has a 6.40 ERA away from Rangers Ballpark, which isn't helpful when you're facing two teams you haven't beat this season.
- Tom Gorzelanny (CHC) -- Mon-SD (Correia), Sat-ATL (Hudson) - After a 4-0 July, is 0-1 in three starts in August. Wrigley Field hasn't been kind to him in his career, which includes this season (3-4, 4.02 ERA).
- Jon Garland (SD) -- Tue-@CHC (Wells), Sun-@MIL (Parra) - While feeling very comfortable at Petco Park (7-2, 2.49 ERA), it has been far from it away from there (4-6, 4.52 ERA). Unfortunately, he'll be away from it for the whole week against two teams that are hitting over .270 Post All-Star break.
Bottom One-Start Starts (#1 being the worst)
- Kyle Kendrick (PHI) -- Sat-WAS (Strasburg) - If you look at the months that don't start with A, it's been a decent season for him. Unfortunately, the current month begins with A, which isn't good news. All that the Nationals have given him has been bad news this season (0-0, 17.47 ERA in two starts in '10).
- Derek Lowe (ATL) -- Thu-WAS (Lannan) - Kendrick isn't the only one that has had difficulty vs. WAS. Is 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA in two starts against them in '10.
- Scott Kazmir (LAA) -- Thu-@BOS (Beckett) - Has had a nice rebound since returning from the DL after his worst start ever on July 10th vs. OAK. However, will return to a place that gave him a similar result earlier this season (4 1/3 IP, 7 ER).
- Hiroki Kuroda (LAD) -- Wed-COL (Hammel) - He's been another bad luck pitcher. Is 0-3 in his last four starts, but has only allowed 10 ER in the process. Can't really blame lack of run support in his two starts vs. COL in '10 (0-1, 8.68 ERA).
- Ricky Romero (TOR) -- Sat-@BOS (Matsuzaka) - Is happier after receiving a nice extension. But it hasn't been a happy feeling when facing the Red Sox, as he's 0-1 with a 10.80 in two starts against them in '10.
Bottom Set-Up Weeks (#1 being the worst)
- Trevor Hoffman (MIL) -- (2 @STL, 3 SD) - Got his first SV in three months. However, that good feeling was short-lived, as he received a L in his following appearance. Two of his five BS are against STL (18.00 ERA in three appearances). Will see a SD team that's alot more offensive than the last time he saw them.
- Frank Francisco (TEX) -- (3 @TB, 4 @BAL) - Had a forgettable series vs. NYY, which included a BS. Has had forgettable outings vs. this upcoming week's opponents (6 ER in 3 2/3 IP combined in '10).
- Jon Rauch (MIN) -- (3 CHW, 3 LAA) - After 21 SV in his first four months, is back to his familiar setup role after the acquisition of closer Matt Capps. Will face two teams that has given him some issues regardless in '10 (4 ER and 9 H in 6 1/3).
