We tell you who to sit and who to start in setting your pitching line-ups each week. For the top pitchers for the week, we focus on questionable pitchers that may or may not normally start for you that have favorable schedules this week. We won't bother listing pitchers like Lincecum, Halladay, or Carpenter in this article, because you always start them, regardless of schedule. Likewise, we won't list lousy starters in the bottom section, because you'd obviously bench a pitcher Jason Marquis visiting Philadelphia without our having to tell you to do so. For the bottom pitchers, we focus on the average and better than average (but not star) pitchers that you would normally start with poor schedules this week.

Top Two-Start Starts (#1 being the best)
- Jair Jurrjens (ATL) -- Tue-@HOU (Happ), Sun-LAD (Padilla) - Is 4-1 after beginning the year 0-3 and being sidelined for two months due to a hamstring injury. Has a great chance to make it 6-1 facing two not so dangerous offenses, especially LAD recently, as they have a Post All-Star break BA of under .220.
- Ervin Santana (LAA) -- Mon-KC (Davies), Sat-TOR (Morrow) - After giving up just 8 ER in his previous four starts, got charged with 9 ER in his last start against BAL. However, is 3-1 (just 9 ER) in four combined starts vs. both teams this season.
- Carlos Zambrano (CHC) -- Mon-@SF (Bumgarner), Sat-@STL (Suppan) - Has returned to the starting rotation after spending some time in the bullpen and getting involved in a verbal dugout dispute which led him to being ordered for some counseling. Has a good chance to get back on the successful track against two teams he was undefeated against last season (2-0, 28 K in 28 IP combined).
- Dan Haren (LAA) -- Tue-KC (O'Sullivan), Sun-TOR (Romero) - Though he's pitched well since being acquired, he's 0-2 with a 3.60 ERA in three starts since becoming an Angel. He's got a solid chance to end a 10-start winless streak overall against two teams he's had recent success against (2-0, 6 ER, 14 K combined in last start against both teams).
- Doug Fister (SEA) -- Mon-OAK (Mazzaro), Sun-@CLE (Masterson) - Like Haren, is on a double-digit start winless streak (11). That streak should end vs. an OAK team that he's 2-1 with a 1.50 ERA against in four starts in '10 and a CLE squad thats not so offensive and that he fared pretty well against in his one career start vs. them last season (6 1/3 IP, 2 ER).
Top One-Start Starts (#1 being the best)
- Tommy Hanson (ATL) -- Wed-@HOU (Rodriguez) - Talk about being unlucky. He is 0-4 in last six starts, but has only given up 10 ER during this stretch. Has a solid chance of getting that elusive 9th W against an Astros team he defeated on April 30th (8 IP, 2 ER, 7 K).
- Brett Anderson (OAK) -- Tue-@SEA (Hernandez) - After struggling in his first start since returning from the DL, got back on the winning track in is last start vs. KC (7 IP, 2 ER). High probability he'll have a second consecutive winning effort vs. a SEA team he hasn't given up a R against in two starts this season (1-0, 12 IP, 10 K).
- Brett Myers (HOU) - Fri-PIT (Maholm) - After a six-start undefeated streak, suffered his first L since June 29th vs the same team (MIL). If you take away being 0-2 vs. the Brewers, has fared great within his division this season (6-1), with two of those W being against PIT (2-0, 2.63 ERA).
- Travis Wood (CIN) -- Sat-FLA (Volstad) - After five mostly decent starts, has his first 3 W ever in his last three starts. Can easily earn his first four-start winning streak ever with help from a FLA team that's batting just over .220 Post All-Star break.
- Josh Tomlin (CLE) -- Sat-SEA (Vargas) - Staying in Ohio, you'll find another rookie that's starting to shine. In his first three starts, which were against three formidable teams (NYY, BOS, TOR), he gave up only 6 ER. Shouldn't give up much at all against a lesser offensive SEA squad that has the worst road BA.
Top Set-Up Weeks (#1 being the best)
- Ryan Madson (PHI) -- (3 LAD, 3 @NYM) - After a rough first 19 1/3 IP of the season (3 BS, 11 ER, 3 HR), has been spotless in his last 6 1/3 IP (10 K, 2 H), as he's slowly returning to the reliable 8th inning guy. Had two solid outings vs. NYM this past weekend and will also see a LAD squad that he was spotless against last season (4 IP, 4 K).
- Guillermo Mota (SF) -- (4 CHC, 3 SD) - After giving up 3 ER in a two-appearance stretch, has gotten back on track (in his last 3 2/3 IP - 0 H, 0 ER, 4 K). Has been spotless so far vs. SD in three appearances this season and will also face a CHC team that he was spotless against in two appearances last season.
- Michael Wuertz (OAK) -- (3 @SEA, 3 @MIN) - With closer Andrew Bailey going on the DL in late July with a rib injury, Wuertz took advantage with a save opportunity last week, striking out the side vs. KC on August 4th. One of his 4 SV this season is against MIN (total 1 1/3 IP with 0 ER and 3 K vs. MIN in '10) and will also see a SEA team he was pretty solid against last season (8 IP, 1 ER, 6 K in seven appearances).
Bottom Two-Start Starts (#1 being the worst)
- Sean O'Sullivan (KC) -- Mon-@LAA (Santana), Sat-NYY (Moseley) - After a solid and victorious performance in his last start as an Angel on July 20th, is 0-2 in his first three starts as a Royal. One of those losses was against NYY (5 IP, 5 ER). He'll also face his former team, a team thats hitting over .270 Post All-Star break.
- Ian Kennedy (ARI) -- Mon-@MIL (Narveson), Sat-@WAS (Marquis) - After a two-start winning streak, has lost two of his last three starts. Could be on the short side of four of his last five starts against two teams he's lost to earlier this season.
- Wade LeBlanc (SD) -- Tue-PIT (Karstens), Sun-@SF (Lincecum) - It looks like he's become the weakest link of the strong SD staff, as he's 1-6 in his last eight starts. He'll face a PIT team that posted a .320 BA against him in an earlier start and has improved offensively since (over .270 BA Post All-Star break) and a SF squad that helped him produce one of his shortest outings (4 2/3 IP on May 11th) and like PIT, has been more solid on the offensive side of things lately.
- Vin Mazzaro (OAK) -- Mon-@SEA (Fister), SEA-@MIN (Baker) - Recovered nicely after his worst start of the season against TEX. However, he'll take the mound against a SEA team that he lost to in his only start against them last season (5 IP, 3 ER) and a MIN squad that has been the best offensive team Post All-Star break (over .315 BA).
- Armando Galarraga (DET) -- Mon-TB (Price), Sun-@CHW (Garcia) - Since his imperfect game, he has been a flawed pitcher. Currently on a six-start winless streak (0-3), he'll face a TB team that pounded him in one start last season (2 1/3 IP, 6 ER) and a CHW squad he's winless against in two starts this season (0-1 with a 4.26 ERA).
Bottom One-Start Starts (#1 being the worst)
- John Lackey (BOS) -- Thu-@TOR (Cecil) - The struggles he had Pre All-Star break has continued Post All-Star break (1-2 with a 4.01 ERA). 1-4 in his last seven starts overall, he'll take the ball against a TOR team that has hit the ball hard against him this season (1-1, 10.97 ERA in two starts).
- Jonathan Sanchez (SF) -- Fri-SD (Latos) - After a strong scoreless effort vs. COL, stumbled in his last start vs ATL (4 IP, 4 ER, 3 BB). Speaking of stumbled, has done just that against SD this season (0-2 in three starts).
- Randy Wells (CHC) -- Thu-@SF (Cain) - It's been a sophomore slump for him in '10. Losing his last three starts (12 ER in 16 2/3 IP), he'll go to the mound against a Giants team that gave him one of his 10 L last season (5 1/3 IP, 5 ER).
- John Danks (CHW) -- Wed-MIN (Slowey) - Staying in Chicago, here's a pitcher that's winless in his last two starts after a four-start winning streak. He'll face an offensively hot MIN team that he's 1-1 with a 4.74 ERA against in three starts this season.
- Bronson Arroyo (CIN) -- Wed-STL (Wainwright) - Has matured into the leader of a young and impressive CIN staff this season. Has given up 0 ER in his last two starts (14 IP). However, that success has a good chance of not continuing vs. a STL team that helped produce one of his worst outings of '10 (4 1/3 IP, 7 ER on May 31st). Facing off against a Cy Young candidate doesn't help matters.
Bottom Set-Up Weeks (#1 being the worst)
- Octavio Dotel (LAD) -- (3 @PHI, 3 @ATL) - I'm sure he felt good once he found out he's on a better team. However, it still might not be enough. This upcoming week is huge for the Dodgers, squaring off against two premier playoff contenders on the road. But if Dotel has something to do about it, it might not turn out good. He'll be taking his 6.75 road ERA against two of the best at defending their home park.
- Nick Masset (CIN)-- (3 STL, 3 FLA) - After a rough first few months, has really stepped up in the summertime, as he's only given up 1 ER since July 10th (14 appearances). However, it might go back to rough mode this upcoming week against two teams that have combined to produce 7 ER and 11 H off him in nine appearances this season (8 2/3 IP).
- Manuel Corpas (COL) -- (3 @NYM, 3 MIL) - After a nice rebound month in July (2.53 ERA, 13 K in 10 2/3), it has looked more like the June version this month, which isn't a good thing (13.50 ERA in four appearances). He'll be seeing a NYM team that came alive offensively this past weekend and is a much better team at home and a Brewers squad that has seriously harmed him in '10 (0-1 with a 18.00 ERA in five appearances).
