TOP 5 NFL NEWS ITEMS FROM THURSDAY 7/15/10 TO WEDNESDAY 7/21/10

We have many great articles planned leading up to the 2010 Fantasy Football season including sleepers, busts, rookies, strategy, full player rankings and projections all wrapped up into a nifty draft kit to help you win your league next year. Below, we analyze the top fantasy football news items from the previous week.

5. Favre, Brett QB MIN - ankle still hurts

If you're drafting early and want to take Favre, make sure you take him as a part of a platoon. Even if he is ready for game one, his ancient body may not be able to take another full season of the NFL grind. A strategy of nabbing him in Round 8 and then the next best QB available in Round 9 would work well.

4. Young, Vince QB TEN has had an excellent offseason

He really stepped up his game last year after taking over as the Titans starting QB after the team's 0-6 start and seems serious about continuing to improve. Consider him a legit fantasy QB2.

3. Hardesty, Montario RB CLE looking like starter

At the moment, it looks like the rookie will be the starter and Jerome Harrison will be the change-of-pace and third-down back. Hardesty had a good camp. That's probably the way it should be, anyway. Keep it in mind as you draft your back-up fantasy RB.

2. Best, Jahvid RB DET will be used often in the passing game

There is talk of him having a Reggie Bush-type role. This is great news in leagues where running backs get one point per reception. He will still run often, but if Kevin Smith is healthy, they are expected to split carries.

1. Chan Gailey doesn't want a RBBC in BUF

We believe that Fred Jackson will be the workhorse with C.J. Spiller as a change-of-pace and third-down back (and occasional slot receiver). Marshawn Lynch may be given some goal line work, but he should mainly serve as a back-up in case of a Jackson injury. Until you hear otherwise, plan accordingly.

ALSO

Vincent Jackson WR SD could sit out ten weeks or even the whole season while seeking a big-money contract... Chris Johnson RB TEN signed a contract, so there's no longer any worry of a hold-out with him, at least... Jordan Shipley WR CIN should end up beating out Andre Caldwell for the slot receiving job at some point this season, if not in Week 1.
