OFF-SEASON TRANSACTIONS

KEY ADDS

  • Bradford, Sam (rookie)
  • Clayton, Mark (BAL)
  • Curry, Dominique (rookie)
  • Feeley, AJ (MIA)

KEY SUBTRACTIONS

  • Bulger, Mark (FA)
  • Boller, Kyle (FA)
  • Avant, Jason (IR)
  • McMichael, Randy (FA)

NOTE: A lot of turnover nets a positive result... if only because it really couldn't be worse. Top 3 QB and two of top three in receiving yards are gone, and in their place is the overall #1 pick.

THE BIG QUESTION

Aside from Steven Jackson, do I care about any of these guys?

Maybe. Danny Amendola was the league leader in return yards in 2009. It helps to return a combined 97 punts and kickoffs, three more than All-Pro Josh Cribbs of Cleveland. Add that to 43 catches, and it was not a bad season for a guy not even signed to an NFL roster until September 22 (from the Eagles' practice squad). Amendola may get more looks at WR this year and draws comparisons to Wes Welker... Sam Bradford is a high risk even as a backup, but in deeper leagues will be worth a flyer and in dynasty leagues is worth strong consideration... Perpetual underachiever Mark Clayton is a late add, made replaceable in Baltimore by the addition of T.J Houshmandzadeh, but is likely to see some of the targets in a depleted StL WR corps. Frankly, with an improved offensive line, a competent QB (all three of last year's are gone), and eight in the box to stuff Steven Jackson, the Rams are as well positioned as any team in the league to see a guy you have never heard of go for, say, 700 yards and 6 TD.

FANTASY DEPTH CHART

QB

  • Bradford, Sam
  • Feeley, AJ

RB

  • Jackson, Steven
  • Darby, Kenneth

 WR

  • Robinson, Laurent
  • Clayton, Mark
  • Amendola, Danny
  • Gibson, Daniel

 TE

  • Bajema, Billy
  • Fells, Daniel

NOTE: Feeley has proved a competent fill-in for teams in the past... As noted above, even though Amendola didn't take back a TD last year, the Rams' porous D leads to a lot of kick returns. In a format that rewards return yards heavily, they are worth taking a chance on. If Steve Spagnuolo can get the team playing at a higher level, remember -- eleven of sixteen games this year project to be again starting QBs: Alex Smith (2), Matt Hasslebeck (2), Derek Anderson (2), Matt Moore, Jason Campbell, Kyle Orton, Josh Freeman, and Matt Cassel. How poorly can that go? ... Josh Brown can be a solid waiver pickup at K even if the offense isn't scoring.
