OFF-SEASON TRANSACTIONS

KEY ADDS

  • McCown, Luke QB(trade)

KEY SUBTRACTIONS

  • Holt, Torry WR (FA)
  • Williams, Reggie WR (FA)
  • Jones, Matt WR (released)

NOTE: Didn't make many moves in the offseason for a team that needed to, especially at WR.

THE BIG QUESTION

Will Pro Bowl RB Maurice Jones-Drew have a similar offensive and fantasy-owner happy season like he did last year?

All signs point to yes. He has evolved each of his first three seasons. Went from 824 to 1,391 rushing yards last season. He's got all the tools: speed, athleticism, power, hands, and attitude. QB David Garrard has also progressed since becoming a starter in '07. Over the last two seasons, he's thrown for over 3,500 yards, but he's only gotten 15 TD passes in each. Part of it is that he is not strictly a pocket QB; he likes to go out and run every once in awhiile (averaged 75 rushes for 322 yards in the last two seasons). Another part of it is lack of big-time weapons. WR Mike Sims-Walker does look promising (63-869-7 in his sophomore season), but there's not much beyond that. The team lost a few WRs this offseason, but really didn't get anybody formidable as replacements. As a result, look for MJD to remain a top-3 fantasy RB in '10.

ALSO

Josh Scobee is entering his seventh season as the Jaguars K. However, none of those six seasons has been fantasy-owner appealing, with a career 76.7 FG %. Mike Thomas had a serviceable rookie season as both a WR (48-453) and kick returner (26-644), but unfortunately, serviceable isn't enticing enough for fantasy owners.

FANTASY DEPTH CHART

QB

  • Garrard, David
  • McCown, Luke
  • Harris, Trevor

RB

  • Jones-Drew, Maurice
  • Jennings, Rashad
  • Karim, Deji

 WR

  • Sims-Walker
  • Thomas, Mike
  • Williamson, Troy
  • Dillard, Jarett

 TE

NOTE: The starting QB and WR position are settled. Go beyond Sims-Walker and there are question marks at WR. Lewis has slowly progressed as a solid TE in each of his first four seasons.
