OFF-SEASON TRANSACTIONS

KEY ADDS

  • Randle El, Antwaan (WAS)
  • Battle, Arnaz (SF)

KEY SUBTRACTIONS

  • Holmes, Santonio WR (NYJ)
  • Roethlisberger, Ben (suspended 4 games)

NOTE: Holmes had to go, but talent-wise, it's a big drop-off to Randle El and Battle.

THE BIG QUESTION

How will the team move the ball without Big Ben for the first four games and with him for the last twelve?

Scoring touchdowns without Ben could be tough. They should move the ball fairly well, but expect many field goals from Jeff Reed in the meantime, as long as Dixon doesn't turn the ball over too much. Ward and Mendenhall should have fine years, regardless. Wallace won't have any break-out games until Ben returns, but even then, the Steelers should continue to rely on their good running game and great defense. You may call Ben a fantasy bargain, drafting him late. We say that besides the likely strong running game and defense holding passing numbers down, they face a really tough passing schedule down the stretch. Don't bother drafting Roethlisberger this season, even at a discount.

FANTASY DEPTH CHART

QB

  • Dixon, Dennis
  • Batch, Charlie
  • Leftwich, Byron
  • Roethlisberger, Ben (suspended 4 games)

RB

  • Mendenhall, Rashard
  • Moore, Mewelde
  • Redman, Isaac
  • Dwyer, Jonathan

 WR

  • Ward, Hines
  • Wallace, Mike
  • Randle El, Antwaan
  • Battle, Arnaz

 TE

  • Miller, Heath
  • Spaeth, Matt

NOTE: Dixon will start at QB for the first four games unless he totally falters... Moore will serve as the change of pace and third down back. Redman may vulture some touchdowns... Randle El and Battle are nice 3- and 4-WR set options... Miller is a sneaky play who should have another solid year with Holmes gone... The D/ST unit is strong. Wallace and Moore should return kicks and punts, but they could also go with Randle El or Battle there... Reed is a solid kicker, but he should face some rough weather during the fantasy playoffs, so he's more of a mid-season match-up play.
