Jackson, Conor OF OAK ($151 TC, - drop Mazzaro, Vin SP OAK)

Jackson never reestablished himself in Arizona after missing most of last season with Valley Fever, so a change of scenery was exactly what Jackson needed.  Oakland was desperate for some offensive firepower, so Jackson is likely to get an extended look as the everyday right fielder.  In fact, since joining the A’s, Jackson has been in the three spot in the line-up and started each of the past three games.  Jackson does not boast a ton of power or speed, but he is capable of posting a solid average, and should pick up a good number of runs and RBI should be remain batting in the middle of the A’s order.  He is a nice pick-up in AL-only leagues.

Viciedo, Dayan 3B CHI ($72 TC, - drop Quinlan, Robb 1B/OF ANA)

The White Sox 21-year-old Cuban prospect has a bright future ahead of him, and the White Sox are hoping that Viciedo’s time to shine is sooner rather than later.  Viciedo possesses big time power potential as evidenced by his 14 home runs in 238 Triple-A at bats this season.  However, Viciedo’s plate discipline needs work (52 Ks to just 8 BB this year), which could make him an easy target for pitchers at the big league level.  However, despite poor plate discipline, Viciedo was able to post a .290 batting average at Triple-A, which suggests that he should be able to post a decent average in the majors.  Viciedo is scheduled to make his first ever big league start Saturday, and could run away with the third base job with a few good games.  He is a high upside add in AL-only leagues.

Vizquel, Omar SS CHI ($25 TC, - drop Wells, Casper OF DET)

Vizquel offers to biggest challenge for at bats to Viciedo, and will be the choice for the White Sox if they decide they prefer a veteran preference to the offensive potential the young Cuban brings to the table.  What else is there really left to be written about Vizquel?  He still possesses a great glove, especially when shifted to third base, but it’s been years since he really contributed at the plate.  If you are hurting for a middle infielder, you could do worse than Vizquel, but he is unlikely to be worth owning in most leagues.

Nava, Daniel OF BOS ($21 TC, - drop Griffey, Ken DH SEA)

After having a fantastic season with the independent Chico Outlaws in 2007, the Red Sox signed Nava to a minor league contract.  All he has done since is hit at every level.  He has posted batting averages of .341, .364, .339, and .294 in four minor league stops, and found his power stroke this season, having slugged 8 long balls in 197 at bats at Triple-A.  With Jacoby Ellsbury and Jeremy Hermida on the DL, the Sox called up Nava to play left field.  He hit a grand slam in his first ever big league game.  Despite all the positive signs surrounding Nava, don’t get too excited.  When Ellsbury returns in early July there won’t be a place in the starting line-up for Nava and he will head to the bench or back to Triple-A.  For the time being he is a nice short term option in AL-only leagues.

ALSO

Another slow week… Scott Moore 3B BAL was snagged, but he remains nothing more than a low end corner infield option since he won’t see regular at bats…Two strong middle relievers were added in Brian Duensing RP MIN and Shawn Camp RP TOR.  Both are worth rostering in deeper leagues that use middle men.  Felix Doubront SP BOS was picked-up after a decent major league debut last week.  However, with Daisuke Matsuzaka due back this week, Doubront is unlikely to get another start, and will likely head back to Triple-A.
