TOP 5 NBA NEWSMAKERS FROM WEDNESDAY 5/19/10 TO TUESDAY 5/25/10

We have many great articles planned leading up to the 2010-2011 Fantasy Basketball season including sleepers, busts, rookies, strategy, full player rankings and projections all wrapped up into a nifty draft kit to help you win your league next year. Below, we analyze the top fantasy basketball news items from the previous week.

5. Wallace, Ben C DET may have played his last season in the NBA

He's 36 years old now and spoke of how discouraging it is to be laden with "knick-knack" injuries at his age. Even if he plays, he's barely a fantasy C2 consideration in deep leagues at this point for teams that need blocks.

4. Price, A.J. needs knee surgery

He hurt it in a celebrity game on Saturday. He will need four-to-six months of recovery time, which puts his status with the Pacers in jeopardy. It's a shame, because he could have gotten at least 25 minutes per game of playing time next season with Indiana and offered the possibility of decent assist totals as a back-up fantasy PG in a deep league. He's now one to monitor through the pre-season to properly determine his draft day value (if he has any left). As aresult of this injury, it's likely that the Pacers will re-sign Earl Watson.

3. Oden, Greg C POR has still not been cleared for basketball activities

His only role in fantasy basketball at this point is that of a lottery ticket, hoping to get some rebounds and blocks late in your draft (and hoping he can stay on the court this season once he returns).

2. Turkoglu, Hedo SF TOR is not happy north of the norder

This is not surprising news. He had a tough season last year. He has three years left on his contract there, so he's not likely going anywhere. He's definitely more talented than last year's numbers would indicate, but if he's unhappy there, a bounce-back season may not be in the cards. It's something to be aware of on draft day, for sure.

1. Griffin, Blake PF LAC was cleared for all basketball activity

Griffin missed his rookie season in 09-10 due to a knee injury. He will very likely be discounted because of this. If the Clippers' roster shapes out well to give him minutes, target him on draft day.

ALSO

The Wizards won the NBA Draft lottery. The rest of the picks are as follows: 2. Philadelphia, 3. New Jersey, 4. Minnesota, 5. Sacramento, 6. Golden State, 7. Detroit, 8. L.A. Clippers, 9. Utah, 10. Indiana, 11. New Orleans, 12. Memphis, 13. Toronto, 14. Houston. Expect Kentucky point guard John Wall to be the first pick. He could have a huge rookie season as basically immediately being the best player on the team (assuming they move Gilbert Arenas). Even if they keep Arenas, the two will make for a great dynamic duo in the back court.
