5. Favre, Brett QB MIN had ankle surgery
This doesn't mean he's definitely coming back, but it's a good sign that he's getting his ankle right. He'll need six weeks to recover but should be fine for training camp. The Favre watch is still on, but this is a step in the right direction for a potential return.
4. Bryant, Antonio WR CIN is lining up everywhere
Step one for Bryant is staying healthy, but if that happens this year, he could have a big season with the Bengals. Sometimes players thrive when moving to a new team, and it looks like that could be the case for Bryant. Take him at a discount on draft day, after a poor showing in 2009. He has serious upside.
3. Jones, Jacoby WR HOU will compete for a starting job
This comes right from the coach's mouth. Don't sleep on Jones, as he has big upside as a starter opposite Andre Johnson. He should be able to beat out the incumbent Kevin Walter, as Jones is more talented, though Walter will put up a fight. Target Jones late.
2. Brown, Ronnie RB MIA claims to be 80% healthy
80% isn't good. It could take a while until Brown returns to full health. Still, given his upside, even if he starts slowly, you have to take him for his upside if he falls a bit in your draft.
1. Williams, Cadillac RB TB claims to be 100% healthy
He came back from two major injuries to do pretty well last year, rushing for 823 yards. Even if fellow running back Derrick Ward gets more involved this year, there's still room for Williams to be an impact fantasy back. Unfortunately, Tampa may not have many leads to protect, but we suspect Williams will do well enough to earn a mid-to-late selection on fantasy draft day.
ALSO
Donnie Avery WR STL added 15 pounds of muscle. Hopefully a stronger body will help keep him on the field more in 2010, though he resides in a pretty bad offense for wide receivers. Still, he could get some garbage-time production... Darrius Heyward-Bay WR OAK has been getting lots of positive press lately. A light bulb has apparently gone on with him, so definitely target him late in deep leagues, in case the good vibes carry into the regular season... Eddie Royal WR DEN has been lining up at different wide receiver positions, most recently in the slot. Don't discount the possibility of a big bounce-back this season after his sophomore slump last season... The hope in Denver is that Brady Quinn and Tim Tebow can hold down the fort at quarterback in 2011 after Kyle Orton plays admirably in 2010 but then leaves the team via free agency.
