Aviles, Mike ($109 TC, - drop Pie, Felix OF BAL)

Aviles is back after undergoing surgery on his right elbow last season, and has wasted no time establishing himself as a reliable option in both fantasy leagues and for the Royals.  Since his return, Aviles has made four consecutive starts, and appears to be pushing Yuniesky Betancourt to the bench.  Aviles hit .324 with 10 home runs in 419 at bats back in 2008 before injury struck, so there is no question that he can be a reliable fantasy asset.  Aviles is a great add in AL-only leagues, and may develop mixed league value as well.

Saunders, Michael ($100 TC, - drop Cust, Jack OAK and $10 U, - drop Harris, Brendan 3B MIN)

With the Milton Bradley situation creating a hole in the Mariners line-up, Saunders gains immediate value in AL-only leagues.  The 23-year-old is a top prospect who has some pop and also can steal bases.  Saunders is well worth an add in AL-only leagues based on his potential, but his long term value is likely going to be dependent on the Milton Bradley situation.  At the moment, it’s unclear when Bradley will be back.  It could be as little as five days with Saunders heading back to the minors, or we could see Bradley head to the disabled list and get an extended look at Saunders.

Uehara, Koji RP BAL ($50 U, - drop Lowe, Mark RP SEA)

Uehara is off the disabled list, and he immediately becomes another potential option to close games for the Orioles.  No one has been able to grab a hold of the job, and there is a good chance that Uehara will be given a shot to do exactly that at some point soon.  Uehara worked as a starter last season for the Orioles and was moderately effective.  He is looking to smoothly transfer to the bullpen and got off to a good start when he pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning and picked up a hold against the Twins on Thursday.  Pick him up in AL-only leagues if you are looking for some saves.

Mitre, Sergio, SP NYY ($30 U, - drop Laird, Gerald C DET)

Andy Pettitte will miss at least one start with inflammation in his elbow, and it looks likely that a trip to the disabled list is likely.  The hole in the Yanks rotation will be filled by Mitre, who has pitched effectively out of the pen so far this season.  Mitre got lit-up last season as a fill in starter for the Yankees last season, so keep your expectations low.  However, anyone starting games for the Yankees is a candidate for wins and worth a grab as a low end fill-in in AL-only leagues.

ALSO

Marcus Thames OF NYY was snagged in the Triple Crown league and makes a good short-term add in AL-only leagues since he is in line for more at bats with Nick Johnson on the DL… Wilson Ramos C MIN has gotten off to a sensational start while filling in for Joe Mauer.  Mauer’s injury doesn’t seem to serious, but Ramos is a good short-term add if Mauer misses another week or so… Hawaiian Kila Ka’aihue 1B KC is a solid prospect, but the Royals don’t seem committed to giving him a chance to really play at the moment.  He will have value if the Royals give him consistent at bats... Robinson Tejeda RP KC was also picked-up because he may be headed to the Royals rotation.  Even if he does end up starting games for the Royals, it’s unlikely that he emerges as an option.
