On December, 2009, RotoCommunity.com participated in a fantasy football mock draft (on Mock Draft Central) with the other industry experts listed below. We assumed standard PPR scoring with 10 (QB 2RB 3WR TE FX K D) starters and 6 reserves. Here's how the draft went down round-by-round, with analysis following each round.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING!!!
I had web browser problems during this draft. My Round 3 (Slaton) and 8 (Lynch) picks were auto-picked for me. I'll elaborate below, but just know that I did not make those picks.
ROUND 1
| Round | Team | Player | Pos | Team |
| R1 P1 | Chicago Beers | Johnson, Chris | RB | TEN |
| R1 P2 | Patrick Welsh | Peterson, Adrian | RB | MIN |
| R1 P3 | Tony Cincotta | Jones-Drew, Maurice | RB | JAX |
| R1 P4 | Sideline Foul | Gore, Frank | RB | SF |
| R1 P5 | @fantasytaz | Rice, Ray | RB | BAL |
| R1 P6 | MikeBlewitt | Jackson, Steven | RB | STL |
| R1 P7 | REDRUM | Fitzgerald, Larry | WR | ARI |
| R1 P8 | DelGriffith | Johnson, Andre | WR | HOU |
| R1 P9 | AdkinsArrowheads | Charles, Jamaal | RB | KC |
| R1 P10 | Junkyardjake | Forte, Matt | RB | CHI |
| R1 P11 | RotoCommunity.com | Mendenhall, Rashard | RB | PIT |
| R1 P12 | @JoelHenard | Williams, DeAngelo | RB | CAR |
Even in PPR, I'm still more confident taking two solid RBs with my first two picks. Pittsburgh got into some crazy passing contests last year, but I feel that Mendenhall can be an elite back in 2010. The Steelers can't pass that much again, can they? That looked a little high for Charles, but then again, maybe not. Too bad Ray Rice doesn't score many TDs, or he'd be Top-3 in PPR.
ROUND 2
| R2 P1 | @JoelHenard | Johnson, Calvin | WR | DET |
| R2 P2 | RotoCommunity.com | Turner, Michael | RB | ATL |
| R2 P3 | Junkyardjake | Brees, Drew | QB | NO |
| R2 P4 | AdkinsArrowheads | Benson, Cedric | RB | CIN |
| R2 P5 | DelGriffith | Wayne, Reggie | WR | IND |
| R2 P6 | REDRUM | Manning, Peyton | QB | IND |
| R2 P7 | MikeBlewitt | Moss, Randy | WR | NE |
| R2 P8 | @fantasytaz | Welker, Wes | WR | NE |
| R2 P9 | Sideline Foul | Marshall, Brandon | WR | DEN |
| R2 P10 | Tony Cincotta | Rodgers, Aaron | QB | GB |
| R2 P11 | Patrick Welsh | Wells, Chris | RB | ARI |
| R2 P12 | Chicago Beers | Addai, Joseph | RB | IND |
Turner is a touchdown machine when healthy. I think, with a healthy Turner, and Matt Ryan in his third year, the Falcons will score points in 2010. I just don't like taking QBs early, so I was happy to see others draft Brees, Manning, and Rodgers. This was before Welker got hurt, obviously. He's now a late-round flier. It feels a bit early for Wells and Addai.
ROUND 3
| R3 P1 | Chicago Beers | White, Roddy | WR | ATL |
| R3 P2 | Patrick Welsh | Austin, Miles | WR | DAL |
| R3 P3 | Tony Cincotta | Jackson, DeSean | WR | PHI |
| R3 P4 | Sideline Foul | Schaub, Matt | QB | HOU |
| R3 P5 | @fantasytaz | Jackson, Vincent | WR | SD |
| R3 P6 | MikeBlewitt | Moreno, Knowshon | RB | DEN |
| R3 P7 | REDRUM | Tomlinson, LaDainian | RB | SD |
| R3 P8 | DelGriffith | Brown, Ronnie | RB | MIA |
| R3 P9 | AdkinsArrowheads | Smith, Steve | WR | CAR |
| R3 P10 | Junkyardjake | Boldin, Anquan | WR | ARI |
| R3 P11 | RotoCommunity.com | Slaton, Steve | RB | HOU |
| R3 P12 | @JoelHenard | Brady, Tom | QB | NE |
My idea was to take WRs in R3 and R4, but my browser shut down, and MDC gave me Slaton instead. I would have taken Ochocinco or Colston.I actually liked the Roddy, DeSean, Vincent trio, but just missed out on them. Knowshon and Ronnie could be nice nabs here. I still don't like QBs (Schaub, Brady) this early.
ROUND 4
| R4 P1 | @JoelHenard | Grant, Ryan | RB | GB |
| R4 P2 | RotoCommunity.com | Jennings, Greg | WR | GB |
| R4 P3 | Junkyardjake | Stewart, Jonathan | RB | CAR |
| R4 P4 | AdkinsArrowheads | Ochocinco, Chad | WR | CIN |
| R4 P5 | DelGriffith | Clark, Dallas | TE | IND |
| R4 P6 | REDRUM | Westbrook, Brian | RB | PHI |
| R4 P7 | MikeBlewitt | Rivers, Philip | QB | SD |
| R4 P8 | @fantasytaz | Thomas, Pierre | RB | NO |
| R4 P9 | Sideline Foul | Jones, Thomas | RB | NYJ |
| R4 P10 | Tony Cincotta | Jacobs, Brandon | RB | NYG |
| R4 P11 | Patrick Welsh | Rice, Sidney | WR | MIN |
| R4 P12 | Chicago Beers | Colston, Marques | WR | NO |
This is where RBs get iffy, though Stewart could be nice. I'm still not feeling QBs yet, and you can wait on TEs. Sidney Rice would be another consideration, but it depends on who his QB will be in 2010.
ROUND 5
| R5 P1 | Chicago Beers | Smith, Steve | WR | NYG |
| R5 P2 | Patrick Welsh | Gates, Antonio | TE | SD |
| R5 P3 | Tony Cincotta | Bowe, Dwayne | WR | KC |
| R5 P4 | Sideline Foul | Walker, Mike | WR | JAX |
| R5 P5 | @fantasytaz | McNabb, Donovan | QB | PHI |
| R5 P6 | MikeBlewitt | Barber, Marion | RB | DAL |
| R5 P7 | REDRUM | Portis, Clinton | RB | WAS |
| R5 P8 | DelGriffith | Holmes, Santonio | WR | PIT |
| R5 P9 | AdkinsArrowheads | Romo, Tony | QB | DAL |
| R5 P10 | Junkyardjake | McCoy, LeSean | RB | PHI |
| R5 P11 | RotoCommunity.com | Nicks, Hakeem | WR | NYG |
| R5 P12 | @JoelHenard | Smith, Kevin | RB | DET |
I'd have considered Romo here. I love Nicks' potential, though, since I missed Bowe and Holmes. The good RBs are all gone. No need to take Gates, as you see the nice TEs in the next round.
ROUND 6
| R6 P1 | @JoelHenard | Witten, Jason | TE | DAL |
| R6 P2 | RotoCommunity.com | Warner, Kurt | QB | ARI |
| R6 P3 | Junkyardjake | Davis, Vernon | TE | SF |
| R6 P4 | AdkinsArrowheads | Gonzalez, Tony | TE | ATL |
| R6 P5 | DelGriffith | McFadden, Darren | RB | OAK |
| R6 P6 | REDRUM | Houshmandzadeh, T.J | WR | SEA |
| R6 P7 | MikeBlewitt | Harvin, Percy | WR | MIN |
| R6 P8 | @fantasytaz | Celek, Brent | TE | PHI |
| R6 P9 | Sideline Foul | Jackson, Fred | RB | BUF |
| R6 P10 | Tony Cincotta | Daniels, Owen | TE | HOU |
| R6 P11 | Patrick Welsh | Cutler, Jay | QB | CHI |
| R6 P12 | Chicago Beers | Roethlisberger, Ben | QB | PIT |
This was obviously before Warner retired. In hindsight, I think my perfect team at this point would be Mendenhall, Turner, Jennings, Ochocinco, Romo, Vernon Davis. I could then fill out with spare RB and WR for a while, plus back-ups at QB and TE until I have to take the D/ST and K at the end.Every pick in this round seems reasonable to me.
ROUND 7
| R7 P1 | Chicago Beers | Brown, Donald | RB | IND |
| R7 P2 | Patrick Welsh | Maclin, Jeremy | WR | PHI |
| R7 P3 | Tony Cincotta | Forsett, Justin | RB | SEA |
| R7 P4 | Sideline Foul | Crabtree, Michael | WR | SF |
| R7 P5 | @fantasytaz | Williams, Ricky | RB | MIA |
| R7 P6 | MikeBlewitt | Finley, Jermichael | TE | GB |
| R7 P7 | REDRUM | Owens, Terrell | WR | BUF |
| R7 P8 | DelGriffith | Ryan, Matt | QB | ATL |
| R7 P9 | AdkinsArrowheads | Bush, Reggie | RB | NO |
| R7 P10 | Junkyardjake | Cotchery, Jerricho | WR | NYJ |
| R7 P11 | RotoCommunity.com | Olsen, Greg | TE | CHI |
| R7 P12 | @JoelHenard | Edwards, Braylon | WR | CLE |
I like RBs Brown and Forsett here. Maclin and Crabtree are nice, too. I'm done with T.O. in fantasy, personally. I think Olsen and Cutler develop better chemistry in their second year together.
ROUND 8
| R8 P1 | @JoelHenard | Ward, Hines | WR | PIT |
| R8 P2 | RotoCommunity.com | Lynch, Marshawn | RB | BUF |
| R8 P3 | Junkyardjake | Meachem, Robert | WR | NO |
| R8 P4 | AdkinsArrowheads | Royal, Eddie | WR | DEN |
| R8 P5 | DelGriffith | Palmer, Carson | QB | CIN |
| R8 P6 | REDRUM | Johnson, Larry | RB | KC |
| R8 P7 | MikeBlewitt | Gonzalez, Anthony | WR | IND |
| R8 P8 | @fantasytaz | Britt, Kenny | WR | TEN |
| R8 P9 | Sideline Foul | Harrison, Jerome | RB | CLE |
| R8 P10 | Tony Cincotta | Breaston, Steve | WR | ARI |
| R8 P11 | Patrick Welsh | Bradshaw, Ahmad | RB | NYG |
| R8 P12 | Chicago Beers | Miller, Heath | TE | PIT |
MDC took Lynch for me here, as I was again disconnected (right after my Olsen pick). I would have preferred taking a shot at Harrison. Hopefully the Browns will just let him have that starting gig. Britt is probably the best receiver in this round, followed by Meachem. I don't see Palmer ever putting up big numbers again, and LJ is toast.
ROUND 9
| R9 P1 | Chicago Beers | Sproles, Darren | RB | SD |
| R9 P2 | Patrick Welsh | Hightower, Tim | RB | ARI |
| R9 P3 | Tony Cincotta | Maroney, Laurence | RB | NE |
| R9 P4 | Sideline Foul | Winslow, Kellen | TE | TB |
| R9 P5 | @fantasytaz | Burleson, Nate | WR | SEA |
| R9 P6 | MikeBlewitt | Wallace, Mike | WR | PIT |
| R9 P7 | REDRUM | Bryant, Antonio | WR | TB |
| R9 P8 | DelGriffith | Cooley, Chris | TE | WAS |
| R9 P9 | AdkinsArrowheads | Williams, Roy | WR | DAL |
| R9 P10 | Junkyardjake | Evans, Lee | WR | BUF |
| R9 P11 | RotoCommunity.com | Avery, Donnie | WR | STL |
| R9 P12 | @JoelHenard | Jones, Felix | RB | DAL |
Winslow could do well in his second year with Freeman, and Cooley could be a nice injury comeback player at this juncture. Avery could do well with a new QB.
ROUND 10
| R10 P1 | @JoelHenard | Driver, Donald | WR | GB |
| R10 P2 | RotoCommunity.com | Manning, Eli | QB | NYG |
| R10 P3 | Junkyardjake | Greene, Shonn | RB | NYJ |
| R10 P4 | AdkinsArrowheads | Parker, Willie | RB | PIT |
| R10 P5 | DelGriffith | Moore, Lance | WR | NO |
| R10 P6 | REDRUM | Moss, Santana | WR | WAS |
| R10 P7 | MikeBlewitt | Cassel, Matt | QB | KC |
| R10 P8 | @fantasytaz | Favre, Brett | QB | MIN |
| R10 P9 | Sideline Foul | Williams, Cadillac | RB | TB |
| R10 P10 | Tony Cincotta | Flacco, Joe | QB | BAL |
| R10 P11 | Patrick Welsh | Robinson, Laurent | WR | STL |
| R10 P12 | Chicago Beers | Mason, Derrick | WR | BAL |
I like Eli as insurance, but would only use him in a superb match-up. Greene will still share with Jones and Washington but is a nice nab here.
ROUND 11
| R11 P1 | Chicago Beers | Garcon, Pierre | WR | IND |
| R11 P2 | Patrick Welsh | Floyd, Malcom | WR | SD |
| R11 P3 | Tony Cincotta | Jones, Jacoby | WR | HOU |
| R11 P4 | Sideline Foul | Aromashodu, Devin | WR | CHI |
| R11 P5 | @fantasytaz | Collie, Austin | WR | IND |
| R11 P6 | MikeBlewitt | Coles, Laveranues | WR | CIN |
| R11 P7 | REDRUM | Ward, Derrick | RB | TB |
| R11 P8 | DelGriffith | Washington, Leon | RB | NYJ |
| R11 P9 | AdkinsArrowheads | Walter, Kevin | WR | HOU |
| R11 P10 | Junkyardjake | Massaquoi, Mohamed | WR | CLE |
| R11 P11 | RotoCommunity.com | Hester, Devin | WR | CHI |
| R11 P12 | @JoelHenard | Orton, Kyle | QB | DEN |
Garcon sure has looked great in the playoffs. There's really nothing exciting left at this point. I just grabbed Hester for depth.
ROUND 12
| R12 P1 | @JoelHenard | Shiancoe, Visanthe | TE | MIN |
| R12 P2 | RotoCommunity.com | Miller, Zach | TE | OAK |
| R12 P3 | Junkyardjake | Young, Vince | QB | TEN |
| R12 P4 | AdkinsArrowheads | Chambers, Chris | WR | SD |
| R12 P5 | DelGriffith | Bess, Davone | WR | MIA |
| R12 P6 | REDRUM | Holt, Torry | WR | JAX |
| R12 P7 | MikeBlewitt | Norwood, Jerious | RB | ATL |
| R12 P8 | @fantasytaz | Carlson, John | TE | SEA |
| R12 P9 | Sideline Foul | Smith, Alex | QB | SF |
| R12 P10 | Tony Cincotta | Davis, James | RB | CLE |
| R12 P11 | Patrick Welsh | Stafford, Matthew | QB | DET |
| R12 P12 | Chicago Beers | Garrard, David | QB | JAX |
Miller had his moments late in the year, and is good enough to carry as your back-up TE. Those are good QB2s, but I'm not into any of these WRs.
ROUND 13
| R13 P1 | Chicago Beers | Pittsburgh Steelers | DEF | PIT |
| R13 P2 | Patrick Welsh | Thomas, Devin | WR | WAS |
| R13 P3 | Tony Cincotta | Keller, Dustin | TE | NYJ |
| R13 P4 | Sideline Foul | Minnesota Vikings | DEF | MIN |
| R13 P5 | @fantasytaz | Bush, Michael | RB | OAK |
| R13 P6 | MikeBlewitt | New Orleans Saints | DEF | NO |
| R13 P7 | REDRUM | Hasselbeck, Matt | QB | SEA |
| R13 P8 | DelGriffith | New York Jets | DEF | NYJ |
| R13 P9 | AdkinsArrowheads | Philadelphia Eagles | DEF | PHI |
| R13 P10 | Junkyardjake | Davis, Fred | TE | WAS |
| R13 P11 | RotoCommunity.com | White, LenDale | RB | TEN |
| R13 P12 | @JoelHenard | San Diego Chargers | DEF | SD |
Some defenses came off the board, but I feel it's too early for that. I like to play D/ST match-ups in-season, so I take mine second-to-last. White is a lottery ticket there. If he lands in the right situation, he could serve as a bye-week fill-in for my big boys.
ROUND 14
| R14 P1 | @JoelHenard | Cribbs, Josh | WR | CLE |
| R14 P2 | RotoCommunity.com | Foster, Arian | RB | HOU |
| R14 P3 | Junkyardjake | Green Bay Packers | DEF | GB |
| R14 P4 | AdkinsArrowheads | Jones, Julius | RB | SEA |
| R14 P5 | DelGriffith | Choice, Tashard | RB | DAL |
| R14 P6 | REDRUM | Shockey, Jeremy | TE | NO |
| R14 P7 | MikeBlewitt | Buckhalter, Correll | RB | DEN |
| R14 P8 | @fantasytaz | Denver Broncos | DEF | DEN |
| R14 P9 | Sideline Foul | Morgan, Josh | WR | SF |
| R14 P10 | Tony Cincotta | Gostkowski, Stephen | K | NE |
| R14 P11 | Patrick Welsh | Taylor, Chester | RB | MIN |
| R14 P12 | Chicago Beers | Bironas, Rob | K | TEN |
Foster is another lottery ticket. He could do well as the featured back if he got a chance. And here come the kickers!
ROUND 15
| R15 P1 | Chicago Beers | Betts, Ladell | RB | WAS |
| R15 P2 | Patrick Welsh | Dallas Cowboys | DEF | DAL |
| R15 P3 | Tony Cincotta | New York Giants | DEF | NYG |
| R15 P4 | Sideline Foul | Freeman, Josh | QB | TB |
| R15 P5 | @fantasytaz | Scott, Bernard | RB | CIN |
| R15 P6 | MikeBlewitt | Kaeding, Nate | K | SD |
| R15 P7 | REDRUM | Baltimore Ravens | DEF | BAL |
| R15 P8 | DelGriffith | Snelling, Jason | RB | ATL |
| R15 P9 | AdkinsArrowheads | Crosby, Mason | K | GB |
| R15 P10 | Junkyardjake | Jackson, Brandon | RB | GB |
| R15 P11 | RotoCommunity.com | Tennessee Titans | DEF | TEN |
| R15 P12 | @JoelHenard | Knox, Johnny | WR | CHI |
Freeman is the best thing in this round. My D/ST pick would be of a decent D playing a potentially lousy offense in Week 1. Not knowing the schedule yet, I just took the Titans, who were pretty darn good after their 2009 bye week.
ROUND 16
| R16 P1 | @JoelHenard | Prater, Matt | K | DEN |
| R16 P2 | RotoCommunity.com | Akers, David | K | PHI |
| R16 P3 | Junkyardjake | Hartley, Garrett | K | NO |
| R16 P4 | AdkinsArrowheads | Scaife, Bo | TE | TEN |
| R16 P5 | DelGriffith | Boss, Kevin | TE | NYG |
| R16 P6 | REDRUM | Elam, Jason | K | ATL |
| R16 P7 | MikeBlewitt | Henry, Chris | WR | CIN |
| R16 P8 | @fantasytaz | Longwell, Ryan | K | MIN |
| R16 P9 | Sideline Foul | Rackers, Neil | K | ARI |
| R16 P10 | Tony Cincotta | Coffee, Glen | RB | SF |
| R16 P11 | Patrick Welsh | Tynes, Lawrence | K | NYG |
| R16 P12 | Chicago Beers | Avant, Jason | WR | PHI |
I needed to fill my kicker spot, and the Eagles traditionally move the ball well, so I chose Akers. Overall, despite MDC making a couple picks for me, I thought I did well, for a 2010 football mock on 12/30/09.
