2009 RECORD: 79-83, 3rd in AL Central

GM Kenny Williams made some big moves during the 2009 season that didn't pay off for the 2008 Central champs. Those moves -- trading for Jake Peavy and Alex Rios -- could pay off big for the White Sox in 2010. Peavy will lead a very strong staff this season, and Rios will be part of a solid meat of the line-up.

Stat table note: The better the ranking number, the better the stat, in all categories. For example, for the SO cat for hitting, a #2 ranking means that the team tallied the second fewest strikeouts. For the BB and SB cats for pitching, the #1 teams allowed the fewest bases on balls and steals.

LINE-UP

  1. Pierre, Juan CF
  2. Beckham, Gordon 2B
  3. Rios, Alex RF
  4. Konerko, Paul 1B
  5. Quentin, Carlos LF
  6. Teahen, Mark 3B
  7. Ramirez, Alexei SS
  8. Pierzynski, A.J. C
  9. Jones, Andruw DH

The White Sox are currently in the bidding for Johnny Damon, and if they get him, he would take over the DH spot and would hit at the top of the line-up. Gone are Thome and Dye, but the Sox still can pack a punch with a solid hitting team. Pierre should get a lot of playing time, and if they keep him at lead-off, look for 35+ SB. Beckham had a big rookie season and looks like the real deal. He is moving to 2B this season, but 3B is thin this year, and he should be used there for most fantasy teams. Rios did not do anything in Chicago last year, leaving some to wonder if he can turn things around this year. I say he does, as he has hit for a high average in the past, and U.S. Cellular Field is a launching pad. I would not be shocked if Rios hits .280 and has a 20/20 season. Konerko will be a safe play this year, but don't expect a high average. Carlos Quentin is a big wild card this year. If healthy he will be a beast, but his career has been full of injuries, and one should be careful not to draft him too high. Alexei Ramirez is a guy just waiting to break out. A lot of people thought last year would be the year, but watched him put up poor numbers, instead. If you miss out on the elite shortstops, feel good drafting Alexei, as last year might be his floor for stats. Ozzie Guillen wants to rotate his DH this year, so don't put a lot of value in Andruw Jones or Omar Vizquel. Look for rookie catcher Tyler Flowers to work in some AB at DH, also.

STARTING ROTATION

  1. Peavy, Jake RHP
  2. Buehrle, Mark LHP
  3. Danks, John LHP
  4. Floyd, Gavin RHP (hip, should be ready for spring training)
  5. Garcia, Freddy RHP
  6. Hudson, Dan RHP
  7. Torres, Carlos RHP
The Pale Hose have a very good rotation this year. Peavy, who has more strikeouts than innings pitched in his career, will lead the staff. He should post a solid ERA around 3.50 and pile up a lot of strikeouts. Mark Buehrle is a draft day bargain every year. He's not flashy but always a solid late draft pick that you can count on. Both John Danks and Gavin Floyd have had 25 or more wins combined in the last two seasons. Both can help your fantasy team in wins, ERA, and strikeouts. I like both of these guys matching up vs other teams #3 and #4 guys in the rotation. The last spot in the rotation will be determined this spring. Dan Hudson looks to be ready for a full season in the bigs, but he has to beat out the veteran Freddy Garcia.

BULLPEN

  1. Jenks, Bobby RHP (calf, should be ready for spring training)
  2. Thornton, Matt LHP
  3. Putz, J.J. RHP (elbow, should be ready for spring training)
  4. Linebrink, Scott RHP
  5. Pena, Tony A RHP
  6. Williams, Randy LHP
  7. Nunez,Jhonny RHP
  8. Dolsi, Freddy RHP

Bobby Jenks has held down the ninth inning for a long time in Chicago, but this season might be his last. The past two years, he has not been dominate like he was in the past, and the Pale Hose have some big arms waiting in the wings to take over if Jenks has any troubles this season. Those arms are Matt Thornton and J.J. Putz. Thornton has closer stuff and should do well in the closer role if given the shot. Putz has closed in the past and has great stuff when he is on. He too is coming off of two sub-par seasons.
